Commissioning Partnership

Working together to deliver a dynamic, high quality and responsive one health system statewide.

The WA Collaborative Commissioning Partnership is joint commitment from:

  • The Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing
  • Department of Health WA
  • The Aboriginal Health Council of WA
  • WA Primary Health Alliance

Working in partnership with other key health sector stakeholders, including consumers, the Aboriginal community controlled sector, and rural and remote health care and workforce agencies, to deliver better integration of health care across Western Australia.

Together, the Partners have developed the WA Joint Statement, outlining their shared commitment to a unified, whole of system approach to improve health outcomes for all Western Australians, particularly those experiencing greater barriers to care.

Purpose

  • Enhancing the care experience.
  • Reducing duplication and fragmentation.
  • Strengthening integration between primary, community and hospital care.
  • Enhancing continuity of care and improve health equity and outcomes for all Western Australians, particularly in areas of greatest need.
  • Improving access to a skilled workforce.

Why it Matters

  • Shared accountability: Coordinated planning, commissioning and service delivery reduce duplication across the system.
  • System sustainability: Collaborative leadership and strategic oversight strengthen a resilient, future?focused health system.
  • Equity and inclusion: Cultural safety and consumer voices shape decision-making to support inclusive and equitable outcomes.

Priority Areas

The WA Collaborative Commissioning Partnership is centred on three priority areas to turn its shared commitments into real action.

Governance, Funding and Planning

Strengthen joint governance frameworks, funding models and collaborative planning to improve equity of access to care.

Care in the Community

Supporting care closer to home through a stronger primary care workforce, team-based care and community-informed initiatives.

Data and ICT

Use data and ICT to drive an innovative and integrated approach to meet the care needs of priority populations across the health system.
