Nurse Practitioner & Team Based Care Pilot

About this Opportunity:

The Nurse Practitioner & Team Based Care Pilot will engage 20 Nurse Practitioners for an 18-month period in primary care settings, with a particular focus on serving vulnerable and under-serviced populations.

Background Information:

The Australian Government has committed $100 million nationally to pilot new ways to enhance primary care. WA will receive $11.7 million to encourage primary care to offer more comprehensive, team- based services utilising the clinical skills of Nurse Practitioners working within primary care services and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS). For the remainder of the document the term “practices” will encompass general practices as well as ACCHS.

The Nurse Practitioner and Team Based Care Pilot (the Pilot) will fund up to 20 new nurse practitioners over two years, who will work in collaboration with other health practitioners, to diagnose, treat, prescribe, and refer patients within their approved scope of practice. The Nurse Practitioner Pilot aims to enhance the availability and accessibility of comprehensive primary care to the WA community, including supporting the delivery of care to vulnerable and underserved populations.

The funding ensures the services offered through the Pilot are free to patients and in addition to existing services. Funding will be provided to successful practices to employ Nurse Practitioners who have expressed interest with the Department of Health WA in the Pilot.
