NNIDR Public Lecture Tour 2019 - Apply the latest dementia care research
The NHMRC National Institute for Dementia Research’s (NNIDR) Public Lecture Tour for 2019. will be a half-day event consisting of a keynote address, followed by a panel discussion with 3 state-based experts and finally, a roundtable discussion for all attendees to participate.
Target audience: people living with dementia, their families, carers, and researchers.
Background: In line with the NNIDRs vision to reduce the burden of dementia in Australia by contributing research that informs quality of life and quality of care, this lecture series will share the latest research findings and help facilitate the translation of research into practice. By engaging Dr. Vincent Mor and other keynote speakers, the lecture series will present the latest in international research and then call upon leading Australian researchers to place this into the Australian context. The presentations and discussions in this series will help attendees establish practical and helpful strategies to improve the care of people living with dementia in their community. This format will also assist care providers to work and build a network with researchers in the field. Learnings and conclusions drawn will be broadly circulated.
Keynote Speakers: Dr. Vincent Mor is Professor of Health Services, Policy & Practice and the Florence Pirce Grant University Health in the Brown University School of Public Health. Dr Mor’s health services research, over 30 years, has had a focus on the organizational and health care delivery system factors associated with variation in use of health services and the outcomes frail and chronically ill persons experience. Mor is currently funded by the United States National Institutes for Health to undertake a large scale program, “Shaping Long Term Care in America”. Dr Mor is going to be our keynote speaker in Sydney and Melbourne. Other keynote speakers can be found on the location pages on the website.
Panel Discussion format: After the opening presentation, the keynote speaker will sit on a panel of a senior researcher, early career researcher and a person living with dementia (and/or their carer). Each panellist will get 10 minutes to discuss the research in their area and attendees will have the opportunity to engage in a Q&A after.
