Australia’s ageing population and rising rates of chronic disease are putting additional pressure on the health system. The primary care workforce is increasingly required to manage the care of individuals with multiple and complex illnesses.
Disadvantage in some geographical areas continues to be a concern and may in part be due to workforce availability and access to health services.
We take a long-term view of workforce, with a focus on implementing incremental, strategic and sustainable changes.
Health workforce is one of the seven PHN priority areas for action and practice support is one of our core functions.
Our activities are intended to support general practitioners, their staff and other health professionals to improve their efficiency, effectiveness and coordination of care.
In this area, our cornerstone initiatives are:
- Practice Assist
- Health Care Homes
- Comprehensive Primary Care
- My Health Record
- Digital health enablers
